Our Story
Ori (折) derives its name from Origami, the traditional Japanese art of folding paper. Ori is described as a prefix that alludes to something beautiful that is yet to come – a fitting reflection of the journey we are on.
Founded in 2018 by two sisters, Sasha and Kaori, The Ori Project began with a simple desire: to revive and celebrate the traditional Japanese arts we grew up surrounded by. What started as an exploration soon flourished into the creation of handmade accessories, each piece shaped by the values of patience, precision, and quiet beauty.
Our roots in Japan, and our life now in New Zealand, guide everything we create. The Ori Project is not just about craft – it is about connection. It is about carrying stories from our heritage, blending them with our present, and offering pieces that feel timeless, thoughtful, and personal.
Every fold, every detail, is a continuation of that story.
